Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact is an open-world action role-playing game developed and published by HoYoverse, formerly known as miHoYo. It launched on September 28, 2020, for Windows, PlayStation 4, Android, and iOS; PlayStation 5 support followed in April 2021. The game is set in Teyvat, a continent divided among seven nations associated with elemental powers and ruled, in principle, by gods called Archons. Players control the Traveler, an interstellar sibling separated from their twin after confronting the Unknown God. Searching for the lost sibling drives the central story, while the Traveler becomes entangled in Teyvat’s political conflicts, ancient catastrophes, and the plans of the Fatui. Combat uses a party of up to four characters, but players switch among them in real time. Seven elements—Pyro, Hydro, Anemo, Electro, Dendro, Cryo, and Geo—can produce reactions, such as Vaporize, Melt, or Overloaded. Each playable character has a normal attack, an elemental skill, and an elemental burst. Characters and weapons are chiefly obtained through the Wish gacha system, which uses in-game currencies including Primogems and Fates. The game’s first major region, Mondstadt, presents a crisis involving the dragon Stormterror and the Anemo Archon Venti. Liyue follows, centering on Rex Lapis, the Geo Archon, and the annual Rite of Descension. Subsequent updates expanded the map with Inazuma, Sumeru, Fontaine, Natlan, and other areas. Inazuma’s Archon Quest examines the Raiden Shogun’s Vision Hunt Decree and the isolation of the Electro nation. Sumeru introduces Nahida, the Dendro Archon, and a plot involving the Akademiya’s attempt to create a new god. Fontaine focuses on trials, prophecy, Furina, and Neuvillette, its Chief Justice. The game operates as a live-service title: Version updates add quests, limited-time events, domains, bosses, characters, and explorable locations. Its soundtrack has been recorded with orchestras including the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, reflecting the regional musical identities used across Teyvat. Genshin Impact became a major commercial success after release and earned mobile-game revenue at exceptional scale, though it is free to play. It also supports cross-platform progression across supported platforms through a HoYoverse account. Multiplayer allows up to four people to cooperate in another player’s world, subject to Adventure Rank requirements and quest restrictions. The game’s visual presentation uses cel-shaded anime-inspired art, but its narrative is serialized through Archon Quests, Story Quests, and world quests. Regular releases have made its evolving map, lore, and character roster the foundation of its continuing broad global audience.
