Resident Evil Requiem

Resident Evil Requiem is Capcom’s ninth numbered mainline Resident Evil game and is scheduled to launch on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Capcom unveiled the title during Summer Game Fest in June 2025, presenting it as a new entry connected directly to the destruction and legacy of Raccoon City. The game arrives during the series’ thirtieth anniversary year. Its title is not merely a label for another isolated outbreak: Capcom has described Requiem as a return to the city whose 1998 catastrophe defined Resident Evil’s early history, three decades after the original game’s debut.

The central new protagonist is Grace Ashcroft, an FBI intelligence analyst. She is the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft, the investigative reporter playable in Resident Evil Outbreak and one of the characters who escaped Raccoon City. In Requiem, Grace investigates a death at the Wrenwood Hotel, the place where her mother died eight years earlier. That investigation leads her back toward the ruins of Raccoon City and the events that scarred Alyssa’s life. Capcom’s announced story therefore gives Grace both a professional case and a personal connection to the setting, rather than introducing an unrelated survivor with no established series ties of her own to its painful past.

Requiem is directed by Koshi Nakanishi, who previously directed Resident Evil 7 biohazard. Nakanishi’s return is notable because Resident Evil 7 shifted the main series into a first-person perspective and introduced Ethan Winters. For Requiem, Capcom has said players can switch between first-person and third-person viewpoints, allowing the game to be experienced in either format. The announced footage places Grace in a vulnerable situation: she awakens strapped upside down to a medical apparatus and must escape while confronting a new threat. The game’s revealed emphasis is survival horror and investigation, but its premise remains Grace’s search to understand her mother’s death and Raccoon City.

Raccoon City has remained central to Resident Evil lore despite its destruction by a U.S. government missile strike intended to contain the T-virus outbreak. Requiem revisits the city after ruins were shown in Resident Evil 3 and later referenced across the franchise. The game’s return to this location makes the Ashcroft connection especially significant: Alyssa documented the disaster as a journalist before surviving it, while Grace approaches its consequences as an FBI analyst. By combining a new lead character, a family link to Outbreak, Raccoon City, and selectable perspectives, Requiem is positioned as a specific continuation of Resident Evil history, not a disconnected reset for returning players.
