No More Heroes III

No More Heroes III is an action game developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and directed by Goichi Suda, also known as Suda51. Published by Marvelous in Japan and Xseed Games in North America and Europe, it launched for Nintendo Switch in August 2021 before receiving PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC versions in October 2022. It continues the story of Travis Touchdown, the unemployed otaku assassin introduced in the original No More Heroes.

The plot begins when alien prince FU, whose full name is Jess-Baptiste VI, returns to Earth after years away. FU and his alien companions invade Santa Destroy, then enter the Galactic Superhero Rankings, a competitive ladder in which fighters challenge increasingly powerful opponents. Travis, now living at the motel called the No More Heroes Hotel, is drawn back into assassination by the threat to Earth and by the return of figures from his past. To advance through the ranking, he must earn money through side jobs and complete battles against the alien assassins positioned above him.

Combat centers on Travis’s Beam Katana, which he wields in close-range attacks, charged strikes, and wrestling moves. No More Heroes III adds four selectable Death Glove skills, including attacks that can slow enemies, summon a damaging field, or create a temporary black hole. Travis can also transform into the Full Armor suit, which gives him new combat abilities and a different visual identity. Between missions, players explore Santa Destroy and other areas using the Demzamtiger motorcycle, though the game retains the series’ deliberately eccentric tone rather than presenting a conventional open-world simulation.

The ranking opponents are designed as distinct spectacles. They include Gold Joe, a magnetic-field manipulator; Black Night Direction, a swordsman associated with samurai imagery; and Midori Midorikawa, a giant alien assassin whose encounter emphasizes the series’ surreal humor. The game also introduces bosses such as Sonic Juice, Kimmy Love, and Velvet Chair Girl, while revisiting characters including Shinobu Jacobs and Bad Girl.

No More Heroes III was originally announced at E3 2019 during a Nintendo presentation. Its development followed Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes, a 2019 Nintendo Switch title that served as a bridge between the earlier numbered games and the third main installment. The game’s music includes contributions from composers such as Nobuaki Kaneko and Masafumi Takada. Its campaign concludes Travis’s principal numbered adventure with a deliberately extravagant science-fiction conflict combining wrestling, assassins, alien royalty, and references to previous Grasshopper Manufacture works.
