Edit reference

Resident Evil Code: Veronica is a survival-horror game developed and published by Capcom. It debuted for Sega's Dreamcast in Japan in February 2000, then reached North America and Europe later that year. Rather than relying on the pre-rendered backgrounds of earlier mainline Resident Evil games, it renders its environments with real-time polygonal graphics, while retaining fixed camera angles and tank-style movement. Hiroki Katoh directed the game, and Shinji Mikami produced it. A revised edition, Resident Evil Code: Veronica X, appeared on PlayStation 2 in 2001, adding cutscenes featuring Albert Wesker. It was later released for GameCube, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. The story follows Claire Redfield, who survives the Raccoon City disaster and searches for her brother, Chris. After infiltrating Umbrella's Paris facility, she is captured and transported to the corporation's Rockfort Island prison complex. A viral outbreak devastates the island after an attack, and Claire allies with fellow prisoner Steve Burnside. Their route through Rockfort brings them into conflict with Alfred Ashford, a member of Umbrella's aristocratic Ashford family. Claire sends a message asking for help; Leon S. Kennedy passes it to Chris, who travels to Rockfort to find her but discovers that the siblings have already left for Antarctica. The Antarctic section centers on Alexia Ashford, Alfred's twin sister and a gifted Umbrella researcher. Alexia developed the T-Veronica virus from a virus found in ancient ant genes, and placed herself in cryogenic sleep for fifteen years so it could adapt within her body. She had infected her father, Alexander Ashford, turning him into the imprisoned creature known as Nosferatu. Chris reaches Antarctica after Rockfort's destruction and joins Claire there. Albert Wesker, now leading a rival organization, also arrives to obtain T-Veronica. Alexia kills Steve after infecting him, though he briefly regains control and saves Claire. Chris then kills Alexia. Afterward, Claire and Chris escape the Antarctic facility in a transport aircraft while its self-destruct sequence begins. The ending reunites the Redfield siblings, but Wesker escapes with an interest in confronting Chris. Code: Veronica is often treated as a major continuation of the series' story because it brings Chris back as a playable protagonist and resolves the immediate Ashford conflict. Its two-character structure alternates control between Claire and Chris, with weapons, ammunition, healing items, keys, puzzles, and enemy encounters organized around survival and exploration. Capcom released Code: Veronica X in high-definition form for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011.
