Alan Wake 2 has surpassed 3 million copies sold, according to the latest figures released by Remedy Entertainment in its first-half financial report.

The milestone was reached during the second quarter. The previous sales update was shared in February last year, when the company announced that the game had surpassed 2 million units and begun turning a profit.

The road to that result was gradual. Although it is the fastest-selling game in Remedy's history, Alan Wake 2 reached 1 million copies at launch and took years to recoup its development costs. Profitability came later.

Funded by Epic Games, the investigative horror game remains exclusive to the Epic Games Store on PC. Its absence from Steam has been cited as a possible factor limiting its commercial potential on the platform.

Alan Wake 2's new milestone comes amid a period of declines across several of Remedy's financial metrics, including revenue, profit and cash flow. The company attributes the situation to its investments in the development and marketing of Control Resonant, as well as funding for other ongoing projects.

Control Resonant is Remedy's top priority at the moment. The stylized action game is nearing the end of development and is scheduled to launch on September 24 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Anticipation for the next Control also boosted sales of the original title in the second quarter, surpassing the record set during the same period last year.

Remedy is also keeping the Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes in full production and is working on a third, as-yet-unannounced project, currently in pre-production.
