This is why comparing eDPI between two different games says nothing. Sensitivity two at eight hundred DPI is the same eDPI in all of them, and it means twenty six centimetres per turn in one game, eight in another and eighty seven in a third. Ten times apart, on identical numbers.

Inside one game, on the other hand, only the product matters: four hundred DPI with sensitivity four aims exactly like sixteen hundred DPI with sensitivity one. Which of the two to move is a question about the mouse, not about your aim.

How do I keep the same aim when I change game?

Match the distance the mouse travels for one full turn, not the number in the settings screen. That distance is the only thing your hand actually learned, and it is what this page converts.

Each game turns a fixed number of degrees per step the mouse reports, and that number differs between them. Sensitivity two in one game and sensitivity two in another are simply not the same setting.

Can I compare eDPI between two different games?

No, and this is the most common mistake with the number. Sensitivity two at eight hundred DPI gives an eDPI of sixteen hundred in every game, and that same eDPI means twenty six centimetres per turn in the Source games, eight in Valorant and eighty seven in Overwatch two.

Ten times apart from identical numbers on screen. Within one single game eDPI works fine as a comparison; across games it compares nothing at all.

Should I change the DPI or the in-game sensitivity?

For your aim it makes no difference, because only the product of the two enters the formula. Four hundred DPI with sensitivity four and sixteen hundred DPI with sensitivity one both give twenty five point nine seven centimetres per turn, to four decimal places.

The reasons to prefer one over the other are about the hardware, not the aim: very low DPI can make the sensor report in visible steps, and very high DPI with a tiny in-game number leaves you with fewer usable steps on the slider.

What is a good distance per turn?

There is no single answer, and this page deliberately does not pick one. What it does show is how many swipes of your own mousepad a full turn costs, which is the constraint people actually run into.

If a turn takes more than one swipe you will be lifting the mouse to aim behind you, and that is a decision about your desk, not about your skill.
