Call of Duty Black Ops 7 is a Black Ops installment set in 2035, a decade after the 2025 events of Call of Duty Black Ops II. The game follows David Mason, son of Alex Mason and a returning figure from Black Ops II. Treyarch and Raven Software are the development studios named for the project. Its official premise puts Mason and his Joint Special Operations Command team against an enemy who weaponizes fear, while Raul Menendez, the defining antagonist of Black Ops II, reappears in the narrative. The announcement connects this sequel to established Black Ops characters and chronology. The setting lets the game revisit the near future strand of the Black Ops timeline rather than the Gulf War era used by Black Ops 6. David Mason previously appeared as a playable character in Black Ops II, whose branching campaign made his relationship with Menendez central to its outcomes. In Black Ops 7, Menendez is not simply a historical reference: official promotional material identifies him as part of the threat facing Mason. Beyond its campaign, Black Ops 7 was announced with multiplayer and a round based Zombies mode. The multiplayer launch plan lists sixteen standard six versus six maps and two larger twenty versus twenty maps. It also introduces Overload, a new multiplayer objective mode built around controlling a mobile device during matches. Zombies continues the Dark Aether story and sends players to a version of Janus Towers, a location introduced in Black Ops 6. The game also promotes a four player cooperative campaign, allowing the central story to be played with others rather than only alone. This is a stated design feature. The game's announcement trailer debuted during the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2025. It showed David Mason in 2035, introduced the return of Menendez, and established the psychological tone of the new conflict. Black Ops 7 was scheduled for release on November 14, 2025, across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, and Windows PC. Microsoft also stated that it would be available on day one through Game Pass. These platform and subscription details reflect Call of Duty's status under Microsoft, which completed its acquisition of Activision Blizzard in 2023 after a lengthy regulatory process worldwide.
