Villains Are Destined to Die is getting an anime adaptation. The news was announced alongside the publication of the manhwa's final chapter on Piccoma on August 8, with production already underway. The announcement brings the main story to a close after six years of publication. Gwon Gyeoeul, author of the original web novel, and SUOL, the webtoon's illustrator, celebrated the news in messages to readers.Gwon Gyeoeul credited the adaptation to the audience's support and said she was delighted at the prospect of seeing the characters on screen. SUOL also celebrated the series' conclusion, confirmed that the anime is in production and asked fans to follow the project. The studio, staff and release window have yet to be announced. The presentation of the announcement suggests the possibility of a Japanese production, but this has not been officially confirmed. The adaptation arrives as otome isekai seeks a larger foothold in anime. Series such as Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke’s Mansion, Who Made Me A Princess and Doctor Elise have already made it to television, though none became major hits beyond the genre's fan base. The manhwa's track record could help change that. It ended with a perfect rating, shared an award with Solo Leveling: Ragnarok and amassed 138 million views across KakaoPage, Tapas and Tappytoon. With its main story complete and the anime in development, Villains Are Destined to Die is now one of the most prominent otome isekai titles headed to the screen.
