Ubisoft is internally using the name Motherbrain for its latest generative artificial intelligence initiative. The term appeared in recent trademark filings linked to the publisher of Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry, but it has not yet been publicly unveiled. One of the filings describes downloadable software that uses artificial intelligence to create video games and interactive content. Another mentions an AI service capable of analyzing data and interacting with people, as well as tools for researching and developing software using the technology.Motherbrain joins other AI projects already announced by Ubisoft. In 2023, the company revealed Ghostwriter, a tool designed to help developers create incidental dialogue for non-playable characters. The proposal was to generate background lines for these characters during game development.Late last year, CEO Yves Guillemot said generative AI had been adopted across Ubisoft and compared the technology’s impact to the transition from 2D to 3D games. More recently, the publisher said it was accelerating investment in Teammates, described as its first playable experience based on generative artificial intelligence. These plans are advancing amid a broad restructuring at Ubisoft. In January, the company closed two studios, canceled six projects and laid off developers. A few months later, it shut down two more facilities and restructured a third, a move that resulted in approximately 380 job cuts.So far, Ubisoft has not publicly announced what Motherbrain will do or said when the initiative might appear in a game or service.
