Steam recorded 43,505,724 concurrent users on Sunday, setting a new record for Valve’s platform. The figure includes people logged into the service worldwide, whether they were playing games or not.

The number of people actually playing also hit a record: more than 14 million users were in games at the same time. It was the highest peak of concurrent users in Steam’s 23-year history.

It was the second time this year that Steam had broken its own record. In January, it surpassed 42 million concurrent users. The latest peak came shortly after the Autumn Sale ended, rather than during the sale itself.

Popular releases have driven activity on the platform in recent weeks. Among them is Aion 2, a free-to-play MMO that peaked at 397,905 concurrent players during its worldwide launch. That figure offers a glimpse of recent activity on Steam, though the total number of users logged in includes far more than those playing any one game.

The list of the ten most-played games changed little, with one exception: Deadlock saw a surge in players after a major update, peaking at 262,145 concurrent players. Valve’s game blends MOBA and third-person shooter elements, but the company has yet to announce it officially.

The activity has commercial significance, too. Estimates cited in the report put Valve’s Steam revenue at US$ 15 billion by September. Among this year’s new releases, Forza Horizon 6 leads the platform in revenue.
