Grand Theft Auto 6’s $100 Ultimate Edition is attracting more preorders than the game’s standard edition. The information was revealed by Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games.

According to Zelnick, the results may reflect the behavior of the most dedicated fans, who are also the first to preorder the next GTA.

“It’s actually skewing more toward the premium edition. That may reflect the fact that the most avid consumers are the ones preordering now.”

- Strauss Zelnick

The standard edition of GTA 6 costs US$ 80, which is US$ 10 more than what other new releases frequently charge. The Ultimate Edition adds exclusive digital content, although the details of that content have not been specified.

The price difference between the two editions is US$ 20. The game’s pricing has been a subject of discussion since preorders opened in June. Zelnick had already defended the price as reflecting GTA 6’s value and called the offering a bargain, citing Rockstar Games’ track record.

The executive also addressed the possibility of holiday discounts, as GTA 6 will launch shortly before Black Friday and Christmas. He did not guarantee how retailers would respond, since each one sets its own promotions, but noted that Grand Theft Auto 5 held its price for a long period, longer than is usual for entertainment releases.

The absence of a physical disc at launch was also discussed. Zelnick said a later physical edition has not been completely ruled out and that he does not see the lack of a disc as something that could hurt sales.

Grand Theft Auto 6 will have its first extended presentation on Netflix later this month. The footage will be released on YouTube and social media six hours later, on August 27.
