Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look will be shown first on Netflix, in an exclusive six-hour presentation ahead of its release on YouTube. The event is scheduled for Thursday, August 27, at 12 p.m. Pacific Time, 3 p.m. Eastern Time in the United States and 8 p.m. in the United Kingdom.

The preview will be available on Netflix for six hours before arriving on Rockstar’s YouTube channel at 6 p.m. Pacific Time and 9 p.m. Eastern Time on August 27. In the United Kingdom, it will be posted at 2 a.m. on August 28. The content is also expected to become available on other platforms later, according to Strauss Zelnick, chief executive of Take-Two, the company that owns Rockstar.

It is still unclear whether Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look will be a traditional gameplay trailer, a short documentary, a Netflix special or something else. Zelnick did not reveal the content or length of the production, but indicated that the presentation would be larger in scale than a typical gameplay reveal.

“If you’re not a Netflix subscriber, you definitely should be,” Zelnick said. The executive also said Rockstar viewed the platform as a good way to present the extended preview and described the initiative as an attempt to experiment with new ways of promoting the game.

Choosing Netflix puts Grand Theft Auto VI in front of an audience that also includes people who may not yet know the game is on the way. The presentation could take the form of a major event within the service, with the look and feel of a series episode, although Rockstar has not confirmed that plan.

The advance broadcast has drawn criticism from those who believe the video is being placed behind a subscription barrier. After the six-hour exclusivity period, however, the preview will be posted on Rockstar’s YouTube channel. Zelnick also did not provide details about the agreement between the company and Netflix.
