Combo Overview

Ultimate abilities are the main abilities of each hero, each one being unique within the game and capable of affecting matches in different ways. Some abilities are global, being able to affect the entire map, others are specific, reaching only a specific area or target unit, and there are still some capable of entirely changing the course of a match when used well.

This is the case of the abilities of Tidehunter and Warlock, two heroes that, when combined, can generate an incredibly strong combo.

Warlock

For this combo, you'll need Warlock as support 4, alongside Tide in the offlane. Warlock is an intelligence hero with abilities that can heal allies and damage enemies, as well as being able to punish opponents a lot and cause slows, which can help control the lane and be aggressive at the right moments.

Fatal Bonds

Applies a link between multiple enemies that deals shared damage to them. This is an excellent ability to use during the laning phase to punish enemy heroes.

Shadow Word

Applies an enchantment to a target that heals allies and damages enemies, depending on the target of choice.

Upheaval

Channels a current into a target area that deals damage over time, slowing enemies.

Chaotic Ophering

Warlock summons a hellish golem that stuns enemies when spawned. This golem has increased toughness and deals extra damage to enemies.

Champion of Gorgoroth

The facet of choice for this build. Summoned golems deal bonus damage based on the Warlock's health and mana regeneration.

Tidehunter

Tide is a strong hero, extremely resistant, which becomes even more so as the game progresses. His abilities include armor reduction, extra resistance against physical damage and his ultimate is one of the best in the game when it comes to initiating combat.

Krill Eater

The facet chosen for this build. With it, Tide starts the game small and grows as he levels up, becoming more resistant with each level he reaches. In addition, his skills improve and become more efficient.

Gush

Launches a wave of water that slows and reduces the target's armor.

Kraken Shell

Passively blocks some physical damage inflicted on Tide. It can be activated to provide double block at the cost of a portion of Tide's speed for a short duration.

Anchor Smash

Tide uses his anchor to attack enemies around him, dealing damage and reducing the attack damage of targets hit.

Ravage

All enemies in an area around Tide are stunned for a few seconds, taking damage.

Executing the Combo

In simple terms, this duo's combo consists of using both ultimates in sequence. First, Chaotic Offering and then Ravage, so that the maximum potential of these two abilities can be used. However, to extract this potential, some items will be necessary for each of the heroes.

Important Items

Tidehunter Build

For Tide, the ideal is to focus on a normal offlaner build, with items that make him more resistant and protect him from disables when entering a fight. Refresher is once again important, allowing Tide to ult twice and keep enemies in place for him and Warlock's army of Golems to finish off. Shiva's Guard is an excellent item, slowing enemies, extending magic damage and cutting off any type of healing or regeneration. Blink Dagger is probably the most important item for this hero, as it’s with it that you’ll be able to initiate fights and ambush enemies more easily.

Black King Bar or Linken's Sphere can help if you’re being bombarded with annoying abilities.

As Warlock, you’ll need some essential items outside the usual set of items that a support should make. Refresher Orb and Aghanim’s Scepter are the most important, as they’re what will make your ultimate decisive. Refresher will allow you to use your ult a second time in a row and Arghanim will make the ability produce an additional Golem, thus creating four Golems to massacre your opponents.

Aside from that, you should make items that improve your health and mana regeneration, to maximize the power of the Golems. If you’re being physically targeted by the enemy Carry, an Aeons Disk or Ghost Scepter can solve the situation, but remember that Scepter makes you vulnerable to magical attacks.

Rod of Atos is another interesting item to explore for your ultimate, and can be used to make Gleipnir, which will allow you to trap enemies so they don’t run away. Excellent against escapist heroes.

Hints and Tips

Ad

  • This combo is ideal for a duo or a closed group. It’ll be more difficult to perform it with strangers.
  • During the Lane Phase, when you reach level six, the duo should wait for the right moment to try this combo for the first time. Practice beforehand for greater success.
  • After Chaotic Offering, the Warlock should use Upheaval to slow down fleeing enemies and Tide can use his Gush.
  • Remember that you can use Glimmer Cape as Warlock to channel Upheaval safely.

    Final Thoughts

Tidehunter and Warlock are excellent picks currently and are heroes that don't demand much from the player, since they have abilities with well-defined uses. Explore the combo to the fullest and always remember to have fun.
