Nodusfall showed a very different side at Gamescom from the one usually associated with HoYoverse. Rather than vibrant colors and cute creatures, the cooperative action game leans into mysterious magic, aggressive monsters and a dark fantasy aesthetic that may bring Elden Ring to mind. The demo put groups of four through two boss battles. Four characters were available: two focused on melee combat and two on ranged attacks. Each style included an option with healing abilities, while the archer equipped with a mechanical arm stood out for her long-range attacks.Combat begins with basic attacks that fill a gauge, unlocking a more powerful strike. Characters also have a secondary move and four unique abilities with cooldowns. For the archer, the selection included a bomb arrow, a backward leap followed by a powerful shot and the ability to summon a spirit wolf. These actions consume stamina, but the gauge shown in the demo offered a generous amount. The range of the attacks allowed players to circle the edge of the arena while continuing to hit enemies, returning to the center when they needed to deal more damage or revive allies.Nodusfall's monsters draw inspiration from mythologies from around the world. Qiongqi, a creature from Chinese mythology depicted as a griffin-like beast, was among the bosses players faced. The other was Maldrake, a dragon that uses fire, bites and wing attacks. The battle against Maldrake changes midway through the fight. Humanoid arms emerging from its chest reveal a knight, who bursts through the dragon's torso and begins a new phase as Maldrake Knight, fighting with a sword and polearm.
