Humankind 2 has been announced for release in 2027. The sequel revisits the concept of combining cultures from different historical periods to build a civilization of your own, now with new progression systems and climate changes that reshape the strategic map across the ages.

The first trailer follows a baby’s perspective through scenes from different eras, including events such as a tsunami, the dropping of a bomb and even a birth in space. Gameplay only appears briefly at the end, but the video sets the tone for the new historical journey.

On the game’s Steam page, Humankind 2 is described as featuring improved visuals, a modernized interface and overall gameplay improvements shaped by player feedback and the studio’s experience. The goal is to expand the choices available in each playthrough without abandoning the blend of peoples that defined the previous game.

The cultures mentioned include the Saqqaq, Etruscans and Scythians, along with an indication that many more will be available. They can be combined over time to shape societies with different historical paths.

The main new feature highlighted is the impact of the environment: climate changes will transform the strategic map across the ages. Cities and economies will have to adapt to changing biomes, while vital resources will require protection. The game will also pit immediate growth against consequences that could last for generations.

Humankind 2 does not yet have a specific release date in 2027. Before launch, there will be an opportunity to play the game and submit feedback, with more details expected in the coming weeks.
