007 First Light has surpassed 4 million copies sold since its launch just under three months ago. IO Interactive announced the milestone on social media and thanked players for supporting the James Bond project.

The result marks a significant increase from the developer’s last update. At the time, Hakan Abrak, the game’s CEO and director, said that 007 First Light had sold 2.7 million units in just over a week at retail.

The milestone comes at a difficult time for IO Interactive. The company is facing layoffs following the cancellation of its publishing agreement with Microsoft for Project Fantasy, another game from the studio. In this context, 007 First Light’s performance reinforces the game’s positive reception and strengthens the case for continuing the series.

A sequel has not yet been announced, but the game’s commercial success makes a new installment more likely in the future. Amazon, the current rights holder for James Bond, has already indicated that it would like to take a more direct role in a potential project. 007 First Light was published by IO Interactive itself.

The game follows a young, inexperienced James Bond as he trains in the 00 agent program, which was recently reinstated at MI6. The adventure has been widely praised as an adaptation of the character, while IO Interactive has revealed details about its development, including the original idea of turning the game into a story with multiple protagonists.

A Nintendo Switch 2 version also appears to be on the way. The edition is described as making good progress and not being too far off, but IO Interactive has yet to announce a release date. 007 First Light is currently available for Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
