GSC Game World has announced STALKER 2’s 2.0 update, titled Back to the Zone. The free patch will launch next week alongside the game’s first story expansion.The update will overhaul visual and gameplay elements in the sequel. The biggest change concerns the Zone’s lighting, with more varied environmental conditions. Sunlight will remain intense outdoors, but it will interact with the surroundings differently, including through shadows and reflections.Indoor areas will also receive more realistic lighting. GSC has further reworked the landscape and vegetation to create a more natural look across the Chornobyl territory.Another major change involves A-Life, the system that governs the behavior of mutants and rival Stalkers scattered throughout the Zone. GSC’s goal is to make the region feel less like a place consumed by constant battles and more like an environment where its inhabitants follow their own rules.With the update, creatures will have more places to linger, including campfires and bus stops. These locations will also become focal points for more conflicts between the groups moving around the map. The aim is for encounters and firefights to result from the actions of Stalkers and mutants, rather than happening constantly during exploration.GSC has also fixed issues that undermined immersion, including situations where enemies could shoot through objects. Patch 2.0 arrives after several major updates released for STALKER 2, which has struggled with bugs, broken missions and performance issues since launch.Back to the Zone will be released next week alongside STALKER 2’s first story expansion.
