SEGA and Netflix have announced a new collaboration involving three adaptations of the company's franchises currently in development. The lineup includes a live-action Crazy Taxi film, a new Sonic the Hedgehog animated series for children, and a live-action project based on RGG Studio's Stranger Than Heaven.The Crazy Taxi film will be a comedy set in the series' universe and will also be connected to Crazy Taxi: World Tour, the next game in the franchise, which is scheduled for release in 2027. The screenplay will be written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, the duo behind the 2025 reboot of The Naked Gun.Neal H. Moritz and Toby Ascher of Original Film, along with Toru Nakahara, will serve as producers. Moritz, Ascher and Nakahara are also involved in producing the Sonic franchise. The Crazy Taxi series debuted in arcades in 1999 and became known for its races against the clock, chaotic streets and punk rock-inspired style.The new Sonic animated series will primarily target preschool-aged children. The project is being developed by Carlos Stevens and Toru Nakahara, with a comedic and emotional approach centered on Sonic and his friends. All three seasons of Sonic Prime are already available to stream exclusively on Netflix.Stranger Than Heaven will be adapted by RGG Studio itself, the developer of the Like a Dragon series, also known as Yakuza. The story is set in early 20th-century Japan and follows a foreigner who rises from poverty, becomes a feared yakuza and tries to build an empire in the entertainment industry.Production details remain under wraps, but the live-action film aims to offer a new perspective on the universe and the franchise. None of the three adaptations has received a release date yet.
