Helldivers 2 is replacing GameGuard with Easy Anti-Cheat. In a post on the game's Steam page, Arrowhead Game Studios acknowledged that its implementation of the current anti-cheat system had not been as effective as it could have been. The studio has decided to switch to Easy Anti-Cheat, also known as EAC. According to Arrowhead, the tool is used in more than 200 games, and the team believes it will better protect fair play and the integrity of Helldivers 2.The switch will also affect mods. Arrowhead warned that some mods with no malicious intent, including cosmetic changes, will need updates to work with the new anti-cheat system. The studio said it appreciates the creativity behind visual mods and other mods that neither change gameplay nor harm other players' experience. Its concern is with mods that give players an unfair advantage or disrupt the experience for others. According to Arrowhead, some of those mods may stop working after the switch. Anyone who believes Easy Anti-Cheat has blocked a harmless mod can contact the team through Zendesk. The anti-cheat switch does not resolve another issue facing players in the United Kingdom: Helldivers 2 remains unavailable to them because of a problem that has yet to be fixed. Sony said it would take up the matter with Valve, but the situation remained unresolved at the time of publication.
