Temtem is an online creature-collecting role-playing game developed by Madrid-based studio Crema and published by Humble Games. Its story takes place in the Airborne Archipelago, a chain of floating islands inhabited by people and Temtem, creatures that can be tamed, trained, and used in competitive battles. A new tamer begins on Deniz, receives a first Temtem from Professor Konstantinos, and starts investigating Clan Belsoto, an organization led by Dr. Hamijo. The campaign sends players through the six principal islands of Deniz, Omninesia, Tucma, Kisiwa, Cipanku, and Arbury. Each island has its own towns, routes, Temtem species, and Dojo, the game’s equivalent of a major competitive challenge. The player’s wider objective is to stop Clan Belsoto’s attempts to exploit Temtem and seize control across the archipelago. Important figures include the player’s rival Max, the scientist Carlos, and several Dojo Masters encountered during the journey. Unlike many creature-battling games, Temtem uses two-versus-two battles as its standard format. Every Temtem has a stamina meter; repeatedly using strong techniques can exhaust it and cause damage. Techniques also have priority and hold values, meaning a move may require a Temtem to wait for one or more turns before using it. Type matchups use twelve elemental categories, including Neutral, Wind, Water, Nature, Electric, Mental, Digital, Melee, Earth, Fire, Toxic, and Crystal. Temtem can also generate synergy effects when a teammate has a matching type. The game emphasizes multiplayer systems. Players can travel through shared areas, see other tamers, trade Temtem, form clubs, decorate houses, and participate in ranked competitive play. Co-op mode allows two players to progress through the story together, with each participant controlling one Temtem during double battles. Breeding is possible at the Breeding Center in Omninesia, although Temtem fertility limits how many times an individual can breed. Temtem entered early access for Windows on January 21, 2020. Its full 1.0 release arrived on September 6, 2022, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The 1.0 version added the final island, Arbury, and completed the main story campaign. Post-launch content included the seasonal Tamer’s Pass, cosmetic items, and the rotating endgame area called the Mythical Lair.
