Persona 3 Reload

Persona 3 Reload is a 2024 role-playing game developed by Atlus and published by Sega. It is a remake of Persona 3, originally released in 2006 for PlayStation 2, and uses Unreal Engine 4. The game follows a high-school student who transfers to Gekkoukan High School in Iwatodai. After discovering the Dark Hour, a hidden period occurring at midnight, he joins the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad, or SEES. Its members investigate Tartarus, a gigantic tower that appears during the Dark Hour, while confronting Shadows and seeking a way to end the phenomenon.

The protagonist wields the Wild Card, allowing him to use multiple Personas, supernatural manifestations drawn from myth and folklore. Combat takes place in turn-based battles, with the player exploiting elemental weaknesses to knock enemies down and gain additional actions. Persona 3 Reload retains the original game’s full-moon operations and monthly structure but modernizes its interface, battle flow, visuals, and social systems. A new skill called Shift lets a character pass an advantage to a teammate after hitting a weakness, while Theurgy abilities provide powerful special attacks charged through individual combat actions.

Outside Tartarus, the protagonist attends classes, develops Social Links, and spends limited days choosing activities around Iwatodai. These relationships correspond to the Major Arcana and strengthen Persona fusion within the matching category. Reload also adds new linked episodes and scenes for SEES members, giving characters such as Akihiko Sanada, Mitsuru Kirijo, and Fuuka Yamagishi more opportunities to share personal stories. The dormitory functions as a central base, where the team studies, cooks, watches television, and prepares for missions. These routine choices matter because time advances continuously toward the next full moon.

The remake features newly recorded voice acting, including Aleks Le as the protagonist and Heather Gonzalez as Yukari Takeba in English. Its soundtrack rearranges Shoji Meguro’s original music, with new vocal performances by Azumi Takahashi and Lotus Juice. The story emphasizes mortality, isolation, and the meaning people create while confronting death. Persona 3 Reload launched worldwide on February 2, 2024, for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. It was available through Xbox Game Pass at launch. Unlike Persona 3 FES and Persona 3 Portable, Reload initially omitted the female protagonist route and the FES epilogue The Answer. Its downloadable expansion, Episode Aigis, added The Answer in September 2024. It also introduces new linked episodes that expand several SEES members’ personal stories.
