Melty Blood: Type Lumina

Melty Blood: Type Lumina is a 2D fighting game developed by French-Bread and published by Delightworks. It launched worldwide on September 30, 2021, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Windows through Steam. The game adapts the setting and characters of Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon-, Type-Moon’s 2021 remake of Tsukihime. Its scenario material was supervised by Type-Moon, with Kinoko Nasu credited for story and Takashi Takeuchi for character design. Rather than continuing the earlier Melty Blood timeline, Type Lumina uses the remake’s continuity, including characters and incidents introduced in that version of Tsukihime. Its opening animation

was produced by Ufotable, the studio also responsible for the animation of several Type-Moon adaptations. The game’s initial cast contains fourteen fighters, drawing on both familiar Tsukihime figures and remake-specific additions. Shiki Tohno, Arcueid Brunestud, Ciel, Akiha Tohno, Hisui and Kohaku, Miyako Arima, Kouma Kishima, and Michael Roa Valdamjong return as combatants. Vlov Arkhangel and Noel, who appear in the remake, are playable here as well. Saber from Fate/stay night is also part of the launch lineup, making Type Lumina a crossover entry within Type-Moon’s wider body of work. Red Arcueid and Powered Ciel are additionally available as alternate versions of

Arcueid and Ciel, respectively. Combat retains the series’ air-oriented style while simplifying inputs compared with Melty Blood games. Each fighter uses three attack buttons and a shield button; successful shields can lead to counterattacks or options. The Moon Skill system lets players spend Moon Drive resources on moves, while Moon Drive empowers a character and enables actions. A Rapid Beat sequence allows presses of an attack button to create a combo. Every combatant has an Arc Drive super move, and can use a Last Arc when available. Story mode gives fighters individual scenarios, illustrated through visual-novel-style scenes with character-specific endings.

Post-launch support expanded the roster. In January 2022, French-Bread released Powered Ciel and Mario Gallo Bestino as downloadable characters. The Count of Monte Cristo followed in April, then Aoko Aozaki and Dead Apostle Noel arrived in August. December brought Mash Kyrielight, the shield-bearing protagonist of Fate/Grand Order, and Ushiwakamaru, another Fate/Grand Order character. Neco-Arc, Type-Moon’s super-deformed comic character, was added free of charge in August 2022. The game received balance updates and story content alongside those releases. Type Lumina’s Steam version later obtained rollback netcode, designed to improve online match responsiveness. French-Bread previously made Melty Blood Actress Again Current Code.
