Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is a forthcoming 4v4 team-based fighting game developed by Arc System Works and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment in collaboration with Marvel Games. It was announced during PlayStation’s State of Play presentation in June 2025, with a planned release for PlayStation 5 and PC in 2026. The project brings Marvel characters into the visual and mechanical language associated with Arc System Works, the Japanese studio known for Guilty Gear and BlazBlue. The game’s title uses “Tokon,” a Japanese term associated with fighting spirit. Its debut trailer presented an original, anime-influenced interpretation of Marvel’s heroes and villains rather than aiming for the visual style of Marvel’s live-action films. Characters shown included Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Doctor Doom, Ms. Marvel, Ghost Rider, Star-Lord, Storm, and Magneto. Their costumes and proportions were redesigned for the game, while retaining recognizable elements such as Captain America’s shield, Iron Man’s armor, Spider-Man’s web attacks, and Doctor Doom’s metallic mask and cloak. Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is built around squads of four characters per player. Arc System Works described the game as a new kind of tag-team fighter in which one player can control a full team while using simplified inputs, allowing players to perform special moves without the traditional motion-command requirements found in many fighting games. The announced design also supports multiplayer arrangements in which players can take responsibility for individual characters on a four-person team. The initial footage emphasized fast movement, aerial combat, assists, tag attacks, cinematic super moves, and large-scale stage action. In one trailer sequence, Spider-Man moved across the battlefield with web-based attacks, while Iron Man used repulsor fire and flight. The game’s environments were presented as highly stylized versions of Marvel settings, including a city stage shaped by the franchise’s comic-book imagery. Arc System Works’ involvement is notable because the studio has established a reputation for highly animated 2D fighting games using 3D models rendered to resemble hand-drawn animation. Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls applies that approach to Marvel’s roster, with bold outlines, exaggerated impact effects, and Japanese animation-inspired character designs. Sony Interactive Entertainment’s participation also makes the title a significant PlayStation-published Marvel project alongside other licensed games developed by external studios. At the time of its announcement, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls had not received a confirmed final roster, exact release date, or detailed story mode information. Its revealed premise therefore centers on competitive battles rather than a published narrative campaign. The game is positioned as a new Marvel fighting-game collaboration, distinct from previous Marvel versus Capcom titles and from the NetherRealm-developed Marvel fighting games of earlier decades.
