Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a four-versus-four team fighting game announced in June 2025. It is being developed by Arc System Works, the Japanese studio behind Guilty Gear, and is scheduled for PlayStation 5, Steam, and Epic Games Store release in 2026. Sony Interactive Entertainment is publishing the project alongside Arc System Works and Marvel Games. The title represents a collaboration in which Marvel supplies its comic-book characters and Arc System Works adapts them into an original competitive fighting format. Rather than using a conventional one-on-one structure, its central match design places four fighters on each side. That format was presented as a way to let players build a Marvel team while Arc System Works concentrates control of the active combatant.
During the announcement, the developer said players could use simple inputs for special moves and complicated inputs to enhance them, a choice intended to make its system approachable without removing advanced options. The published reveal identified Captain America, Iron Man, Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man, Storm, Star-Lord, Ghost Rider, and Doctor Doom among the playable roster. Ghost Rider is specifically Robbie Reyes, not merely the mantle in general. The trailer also showed the game’s heavily stylized character presentation and comic-book-inspired visual identity, with designs created for this game rather than direct copies of a film cast. Arc System Works has described Marvel Tōkon as its own take on Marvel, and the public material emphasizes the studio’s animated fighting-game craftsmanship.
The name uses the Japanese word “tōkon,” commonly rendered as “fighting spirit,” alongside the English subtitle Fighting Souls. Its announced platforms matter because it is not framed as a PlayStation-only game; the 2026 release plan includes PC storefronts as well. Sony and Marvel presented it at a PlayStation State of Play broadcast, where its four-person squads were central to the initial explanation of play. Unlike a standard tag fighter built around two characters, Marvel Tōkon gives a team four slots, although public descriptions stress that players directly handle one selected fighter at a time.
The other members support attacks and team actions, allowing the game to present large Marvel groups without requiring simultaneous manual control of every character. Arc System Works has also said that the team structure permits combinations of heroes and villains that would not usually share a side. This is why Doctor Doom can be placed with Captain America or Ms. Marvel. That flexibility is fundamental.
