Light No Fire is a fantasy adventure game developed by Hello Games, the British studio responsible for No Man's Sky. It was announced at The Game Awards on December 7, 2023, with Sean Murray introducing the project on stage. The announcement presented a different setting from the studio's space exploration game: instead of travelling between planets, players would explore one enormous world. Its central premise is a procedurally generated fantasy planet described by its developers as the size of Earth.
The official description calls it a game about "adventure, building, survival and exploration together." Hello Games also describes the design as combining the depth of a traditional roleplaying game with the freedom of a survival sandbox. That wording establishes the intended mixture without identifying a fixed storyline or named protagonist. The world is explicitly presented as a fantasy setting rather than science fiction, with an emphasis on discovery across a landscape that players are not positioned to already understand fully.
Its first trailer showed characters travelling through forests, across grasslands, and over mountainous terrain. It also depicted swimming, sailing, and flight, with riders taking to the air on large birds and dragonlike creatures. These images made vertical movement an important part of the reveal: the environment was not shown solely as a surface to cross on foot. Mountains, coastlines, and stretches of water provided distinct geographical features within the same world, rather than separate planets reached through a spaceship interface.
Building and cooperation were also visible in the announcement footage. Characters worked around wooden structures, and the trailer repeatedly showed groups sharing the landscape. The official feature descriptions identify multiplayer exploration and the construction of persistent buildings and communities. This gives the project a concrete social dimension: players are invited to establish things within the world, not merely pass through it. The footage additionally featured humanoid animal characters, including rabbitlike figures, alongside human characters, reinforcing the game's distinctive fantasy imagery.
The comparison with No Man's Sky is useful primarily because both projects use procedural generation to support exploration on an unusually large scale. Their announced settings, however, differ fundamentally: one centres on a universe of planets, while Light No Fire centres on a single planetary landscape. The reveal does not establish every detail of the finished game. Specific claims about its complete story, final progression systems, or eventual technical performance should therefore not be treated as facts from that announcement.
