Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world action role-playing game developed and published by CD Projekt. It launched on 10 December 2020 for Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Stadia, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions arriving in 2022. Set in the year 2077, it adapts Mike Pondsmith’s Cyberpunk tabletop universe, chiefly in the Californian metropolis of Night City. Players control V, a mercenary whose voice, body type, appearance, and background can be customized. The three selectable lifepaths—Nomad, Streetkid, and Corpo—change V’s opening sequence and add dialogue options rather than creating wholly separate campaigns. Their choices shape several quests and endings later. The central story begins when V and fellow mercenary Jackie Welles steal an experimental biochip, the Relic, from Konpeki Plaza. The operation collapses after the murder of Saburo Arasaka, patriarch of the Arasaka corporation, and V is left carrying an engram of rockerboy Johnny Silverhand. Johnny, portrayed by Keanu Reeves, is a dead anti-corporate musician whose digitized consciousness gradually conflicts with V’s own. V seeks a way to survive the chip’s neurological damage, working with figures including fixer Dexter DeShawn, netrunner T-Bug, ripperdoc Viktor Vektor, and braindance specialist Judy Alvarez. Quests eventually take V to Voodoo Boys, Takemura, Panam Palmer, and Aldecaldos. Night City is divided into six districts: City Center, Watson, Westbrook, Heywood, Santo Domingo, and Pacifica. Exploration also extends to Badlands outside city. V uses firearms, melee weapons, cyberware, hacking abilities, stealth, and vehicles; the quickhacking system lets V target cameras, enemies, and devices over networks. Cyberware can be installed by ripperdocs, while attributes and perks support builds. Quests can be resolved through combat, conversation, infiltration, or choices, although outcomes vary by mission. The game features radio and soundtrack with fictional performers such as Samurai, Silverhand’s band. Refused recorded Samurai’s music, and vocalist Dennis Lyxzén supplied Silverhand’s distinctive in-game singing voice. At release, Cyberpunk 2077 received praise for its setting, visual design, performances, and ambition, but criticism for bugs and performance problems, especially on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. CD Projekt issued patches later, and the 2.0 update, released in September 2023, reworked systems including perks, cyberware, police responses, and vehicle combat. The expansion Phantom Liberty launched that month for Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. It introduces Dogtown and a spy-thriller story involving Solomon Reed, played by Idris Elba, President Rosalind Myers, and netrunner Song So Mi. Its missions give V a route to address the Relic crisis.
