Professor Layton and the New World of Steam

Professor Layton and the New World of Steam is an upcoming Professor Layton adventure from Level-5, scheduled for release on December 10, 2026. Its story is set one year after the events of Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, placing it after Layton’s earlier time-travel mystery in the series chronology.

The new case takes Professor Hershel Layton and his apprentice Luke Triton to Steam Bison, a city in America whose rapid development has been driven by advanced steam technology. Publicly released material presents Steam Bison as a place whose steam-powered progress has surpassed that of London, giving the game a setting distinct from the British locations closely associated with the earlier Layton stories.

The adventure begins after a mysterious incident occurs in Steam Bison. Luke contacts Layton, bringing the two detectives together again for a new investigation. Their reunion is central to the game’s premise: Layton and Luke must confront the mystery connected to the city and its remarkable steam-based development.

Like the previous mainline Professor Layton titles, The New World of Steam is built around investigation and puzzle solving. The game was announced by Level-5 in February 2023, when the company confirmed that Layton would return in a new mainline entry rather than a remake or a side story. Later promotional material showed Layton and Luke exploring Steam Bison and solving puzzles as the city’s unexplained incident unfolds.

Puzzle production for the game has been associated with QuizKnock, the Japanese quiz and educational-entertainment group. This continues the series’ emphasis on structured brainteasers as part of the narrative, with puzzles integrated into Layton and Luke’s investigation of Steam Bison’s secrets.
