PowerWash Simulator is a cleaning simulation created by FuturLab. It began in Steam Early Access on May 19, 2021, and reached its 1.0 release on July 14, 2022, for PC and Xbox consoles. The game’s central setting is the fictional town of Muckingham, where the player operates a power-washing business and accepts jobs through messages and contracts. Rather than merely presenting unrelated surfaces, Career Mode uses those requests to build a continuing Muckingham story. At the outset, the player washes their van and takes on domestic jobs such as the Backyard, the Bungalow, and the Playground. Later jobs become conspicuously larger and stranger: the Fire Station, Tree House, Mayor’s Mansion, Carousel, Drill, Ancient Statue, and Temple are all Career locations. The equipment progression is concrete: players earn money, buy stronger power washers and extensions, and choose nozzles with different spray widths. Cleaning is judged by completion of named object parts, so a job can hinge on finding a small remaining patch of dirt on a railing, wheel, or roof. Muckingham’s plot becomes increasingly fantastical. The player’s work intersects with the town’s mayor, messages from clients, and an archaeological thread involving ancient structures. Career Mode eventually sends the washer beyond ordinary houses to sites including a tomb and a lost city. This escalation is a distinctive part of PowerWash Simulator’s authored campaign, not just a sequence of randomly generated cleaning tasks. The game also has co-operative play, allowing players to clean together online, while Free Play lets them revisit unlocked jobs. FuturLab continued to add themed content after launch. The free Tomb Raider collaboration lets players clean Croft Manor, including Lara Croft’s home and its grounds. The Final Fantasy VII Midgar Special Pack brought five jobs set around Midgar, with locations and vehicles drawn from Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII world. Licensed expansions have also taken the washer to SpongeBob SquarePants’ Bikini Bottom, Back to the Future’s Hill Valley, and the Warhammer 40,000 universe. These packs preserve the base game’s deliberate cleaning loop, but replace Muckingham objects with recognizable settings such as the DeLorean and Warhammer machinery. PowerWash Simulator is therefore notable not only for its satisfying surface-cleaning mechanic, but for a campaign that turns a small local business into an escalating Muckingham mystery and for collaborations that make washing specific fictional landmarks the actual assignment. Its developers also supported the game with seasonal content and the self-contained Muckingham Files updates afterward.
