Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 is an announced first-person shooter and the direct sequel to 2023’s Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun. Developed by Auroch Digital, it was revealed during the Warhammer Skulls showcase in May 2025. The announced game returns to the deliberately retro-styled FPS approach of its predecessor, pairing pixel-art visuals and fast gunplay with Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000 setting. Its public reveal identifies a 2026 release window for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
The campaign again centers on Malum Caedo, the Space Marine protagonist of the first game. Boltgun ended with Caedo surviving the fight on Graia and continuing his mission against Chaos; the sequel’s announcement explicitly presents it as the continuation of his story. Rather than merely revisiting one battlefield, Boltgun 2 has been announced as a galaxy-spanning campaign in which Caedo travels to new worlds. The reveal also emphasizes player choice: players will select their route through the campaign, so its sequence of missions is not presented as wholly fixed.
Auroch Digital has said that the sequel adds enemy types and weapons rather than functioning simply as an expansion for Boltgun. Publicly shown material includes battles against Chaos forces, while the game’s descriptions promise fresh environments and threats across its chosen destinations. The announced arsenal remains anchored by the boltgun, the iconic rapid-firing weapon named in the series title, but Boltgun 2 is also advertised with additional tools for dispatching enemies. Its combat is framed around constant forward momentum, heavy firepower, and close-range violence.
The announcement also identifies movement as an area of expansion. Caedo will have new ways to move through combat spaces, a change intended to support the sequel’s vertical encounters and aggressive pace. This is important to Boltgun 2’s stated identity: it is not being billed as a remake or a separate character’s campaign, but as the next chapter for Caedo. The game retains the exaggerated visual language associated with so-called boomer shooters—large sprites, conspicuous gore, and highly readable weapons—while locating those elements within the Imperium’s far-future war.
At the time of its announcement, no full mission-by-mission plot outline had been published. What has been confirmed is the sequel’s premise: Malum Caedo returns, the campaign reaches new worlds, players choose paths, and new weapons, enemies, and movement options accompany the continuing fight against humanity’s foes. Future details, including the complete narrative and final mission roster, remain to be announced by the developer and publisher.
