Paralives is a life simulation game developed by Paralives Studio, the independent team founded by Alex Massé. Its development has been shared publicly through videos and updates, with support from patrons on Patreon. Rather than introducing only a finished product, the studio has shown how the game’s two central parts are being made: a building mode for creating homes and a live mode for controlling their residents.
The residents are called Parafolk. The studio calls its character creator the ParaMaker, distinguishing it from the tools used to design houses. In Paralives, players can create Parafolk, furnish their homes, and direct their everyday activities and relationships. Those terms are useful details when following the project: a ParaMaker demonstration concerns the people who will inhabit a house, while a building-mode demonstration concerns the rooms, objects, and layout around them.
Building tools were an early focus of the game’s public demonstrations. Footage released by the studio has shown furniture being resized and placed without relying entirely on a fixed grid. It has also shown walls that can curve, giving builders options beyond rectangular floor plans. These are not just decorative choices. Resizing a piece of furniture changes how it fits in a room, while curved walls change the shape of the room itself. The studio has used demonstrations of these tools to make the building process a visible part of Paralives’ development history.
The project’s public history also includes the gradual reveal of its Parafolk. Maggie was introduced in a character reveal that showed the studio’s approach to the people who would occupy players’ buildings. Later updates expanded attention from construction to character creation and live-mode systems. That sequence matters because Paralives first drew attention for the flexibility of its building tools, but its stated scope has always extended beyond making houses.
Paralives is closely associated with its public development process. Patreon updates, videos, and other studio posts have allowed followers to see individual features before the game is complete, from placing objects to shaping characters. They also make it important to distinguish a demonstrated feature from a future plan: footage of a working tool is evidence of what the team has shown, not a guarantee that every proposed feature will appear unchanged in a release.
The most specific way to describe Paralives is therefore through what its makers have actually named and demonstrated: Parafolk made in the ParaMaker, homes assembled with flexible building tools, and a life mode intended to bring those creations together. Those elements, and the studio’s unusually visible account of building them, define the project’s history.
