to=tools.exec_command codeManor Lords is a medieval strategy game developed by Greg Styczeń under the independent studio name Slavic Magic in Poland. Publisher Hooded Horse released Manor Lords into Steam Early Access, the Epic Games Store, and GOG on April 26, 2024. The game uses Unreal Engine 4 and focuses on building, managing, and defending settlements across a medieval Central European landscape. Its campaign map is divided into regions, and players expand by claiming territory, establishing villages, and competing with neighboring lords. A settlement begins with a central Storehouse and a limited population, while construction gradually creates Burgage Plots for resident families. Burgage Plots can be upgraded, but household needs, available resources, and regional approval determine whether development remains sustainable over time. Families perform jobs rather than serving as abstract numbers, working as farmers, artisans, laborers, traders, or soldiers when assigned roles. The production system links buildings and materials: grain can become flour and then bread, while firewood helps households survive winter. Seasons affect agriculture, and winter creates pressure through cold, shortages, and reduced productivity rather than functioning as a visual change. Combat is real-time, with formations, positioning, morale, fatigue, and terrain influencing clashes between retinues, militias, and professional troops on campaign. The player can recruit a retinue, whose soldiers represent the lord's household force and can receive equipment or customization options. Militia draws from eligible villagers, so military decisions directly affect the workforce needed to sow fields and produce goods locally. Manor Lords emphasizes historically inspired logistics, including oxen for hauling, realistic road connections, and market distribution of supplies within settlements. Its interface and systems avoid a conventional square-grid city plan; buildings follow roads and terrain, producing irregular medieval-looking towns naturally. The title is not based on a historical protagonist or fixed story; it presents a sandbox campaign shaped by decisions. Development began as a solo project by Styczeń, who shared progress publicly before Hooded Horse signed the game for publication. Before release, its demonstrations attracted attention for combining detailed settlement construction with large-scale battles in a relatively small development team. Early Access means features remain subject to iteration, balancing, technical problems, and redesign as development continues toward the full release. Hooded Horse has described the game as a launch for the publisher, while Styczeń continues updating core systems and content. Manor Lords therefore combines city building, economic management, territorial expansion, and tactical warfare within historically flavored Early Access strategy experience.
