Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP is a remaster of Grasshopper Manufacture's 2012 action game Lollipop Chainsaw. It follows Juliet Starling, an eighteen-year-old cheerleader at San Romero High School who hunts zombies with a chainsaw. On her birthday, a zombie outbreak begins at school, and Juliet fights through infected classmates while trying to protect her boyfriend Nick. Nick is bitten and becomes a zombie, but Juliet uses her family's knowledge of zombie hunting to keep him conscious and search for a cure during chaos.

The story unfolds across San Romero High, the city streets, and a cemetery, with Juliet confronting hordes created by the mysterious outbreak. Her adversary is Swan, a goth student and occult enthusiast who uses dark magic to turn school staff and students into zombies. Juliet also meets her sisters Cordelia and Rosalind, whose combat abilities support her during the crisis. The game mixes melee chainsaw attacks with firearms, acrobatic movement, quick-time events, and collectible items scattered through stages.

RePOP retains the original game's colorful punk presentation and exaggerated humor, but it was developed by Dragami Games rather than Grasshopper Manufacture. Dragami Games was founded by Yoshimi Yasuda, the original game's producer, and announced the project in 2023. The remaster uses Unreal Engine 5, replaces the original soundtrack with newly licensed music, and offers updated visuals, performance improvements, and additional gameplay options. It launched on September 25, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

One significant change is the soundtrack policy. The 2012 release featured licensed songs including Joan Jett's "Bad Reputation," The Chordettes' "Lollipop," and DragonForce's "Through the Fire and Flames." RePOP does not use the same soundtrack wholesale because licensing arrangements changed; replacement tracks vary by edition and region. RePOP adds Japanese voice acting and new costumes and chainsaw skins.

The title references its predecessor while remaining a self-contained story, and its campaign is structured around Juliet's route through several named stages. Players can revisit levels, improve rankings, rescue survivors, and collect medals and wrappers. Juliet's signature weapon is the chainsaw, which can be upgraded with earned coins. Combat includes the Chainsaw Dash, Chainsaw Blaster, and Chainsaw Pogo Stick, each serving a distinct traversal or attack purpose. RePOP therefore remains specifically a revival of Juliet's zombie-slaying adventure, rather than a sequel.
