CD Projekt Red has set 2028 as the target release year for The Witcher 4. Co-CEO Michal Nowakowski mentioned the date in an update on the next chapter in the series, though it could still change.

The studio is working on a new The Witcher saga with more than 500 developers. Nowakowski described the project as the company's biggest, boldest and most ambitious game yet, while asking the public to be patient during the wait for the planned release window.

“I know it's a bit of a long wait and that you'd love to play it sooner, but let the team work. It will be worth the wait.”

CD Projekt Red also reiterated some of The Witcher 4's core pillars: a vast and immersive open world, intense action and a deep story shaped by player choices. Ciri will be the game's protagonist and lead the franchise into its new phase.

While the fourth game remains in production, the company is preparing to present The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Songs of the Past at Gamescom. The expansion will put Geralt in the leading role and take players to a new continent, along with a story described as dark.

There is still no information on when the events of Songs of the Past take place in relation to The Witcher 3, or on whether Ciri will appear in the expansion. CD Projekt Red indicated that it will reveal more details during the summer and also hinted at one or two surprises for the event.
