Final Fantasy VII Revelation was finally announced at the Summer Game Fest 2026. The third and final chapter of the Remake trilogy of the 1997 classic will launch simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.
The announcement brought the first trailer and an extended gameplay session, with details about new playable characters, the Fits class system, the open world navigable by the Highwind, and much more. Below, we have gathered everything confirmed so far.
Release Date and Platforms

Final Fantasy VII Revelation will be released in spring 2027 (fall in the Southern Hemisphere), between March 20 and June 21. The title will be the first in the trilogy to launch simultaneously across multiple platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC via Steam and Epic Games, and Nintendo Switch 2.
The Weapons Have Awakened
The trailer confirms that Diamond, Ruby, Sapphire, and Ultima Weapon exist in the Remake universe. The big absentee is Emerald Weapon. Naoki Hamaguchi commented in an interview with Denfamico that the underwater reactor exists in Revelation, but he could not give more details. The omission may indicate a change in the script or, more likely, that the segment where it appears would have too many spoilers.

A smaller Weapon, possibly the same one from the Corel reactor or in Gongaga in FFVII Rebirth, appears to be responsible for the attack on Mideel, potentially marking the first major divergence from the original game.

In the livestream with Maximilian Dood, the director also indicated that the Weapons may have unique mechanics in their encounters.
Vincent and Cid as Party Members
Cid and Vincent were the highlights of the gameplay trailer.
Vincent mixes long‑range aimed shots with physical attacks and can transform into his Gallian Beast form anytime with a single button. Other transformations associated with his Limit Breaks were not mentioned.
Cid fights with a spear and specializes in aerial combat. He has an ability that apparently summons a water dragon to attack enemies and heal the party.
New Fits System and Unified Summons

The most important combat innovation is the introduction of Fits (Function-Integrated Tactical Suits), a class system similar to the Dresspheres from Final Fantasy X‑2 or the Jobs from Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin.
Each outfit provides different attributes, allowing characters to take on distinct roles, such as Tifa specializing in magic. Hamaguchi mentioned in Maximilian Dood's livestream that each character will have four Fits.

Summons also get a revamp. They no longer seem to be tied to specific characters' materia loadouts and have their own subcategory of Materia, with up to three Summons available to any character, each with a distinct type of effect.
Open World and Highwind Navigation
Final Fantasy VII Revelation features an open world with the complete map of Gaia, including old regions from FFVII Rebirth, new ones such as Mideel, Rocket Town, and Wutai, plus a partially explorable Midgar. Which segments of the metropolis will be available was not specified, but following the original game's lead, Sector 5 and the Wall Market are the most likely choices.

According to the interview with Denfamico (translated by content creator aitaikimochi), the Highwind will be available from the start of the game. Many areas are accessible as soon as the player finds the airship, but they may be difficult to explore due to high enemy levels. Hamaguchi's goal is to create a different experience for each player, with the feeling of "What should I do now?"
The Highwind is the main mode of travel, with characters parachuting in real time to the regions the player chooses. Each old map has been expanded with new stories and activities, and the new regions, such as Wutai, have their own arcs, more developed than in the original game.
Story Progression
Players will have more agency in Final Fantasy VII Revelation, with significant choices that can shape the unfolding and outcome of some plot arcs. Players may have very different experiences depending on their decisions, but Hamaguchi stated that the title does not have multiple endings.
Miscellaneous
New Voice Actor for Sephiroth

Sephiroth gets a new voice actor for the third episode: Travis Willingham, known for voicing Guile in Street Fighter V, Aced in Kingdom Hearts, Roy Mustang in Fullmetal Alchemist, and for his participation in the web series Critical Role.
New Voice Actor for Reno
Reno also has a new voice actor following Keiji Fujiwara's passing in 2020 and will have more screen time in Revelation. The Turks, as in the original game, are part of the Wutai arc.
Zack and Timelines

Hamaguchi confirmed that Zack Fair will appear in Revelation with more screen time than in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The arc about timelines will be explored as part of his story.
Knights of the Round
Knights of the Round are in development to be "worthy of the epicness" of the original Summon, according to Hamaguchi speaking to Denfamico.
Chocobos
Chocobo Breeding will not be an activity in Revelation, but players will be able to level up Piko to reach new regions.
Minigames
The minigames have not been reduced, but they have been adjusted for players who had difficulty with those in FFVII Rebirth. The slap fight between Tifa and Scarlet is one of them.
Affinity
The Affinity system from FFVII Rebirth has been reworked to focus more on character arcs.
Chadley
Chadley will be aboard the Highwind, according to an interview with Giant Bomb. He will conduct experiments and research related to Meteor and will have a larger role in the main story.
