Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has received a free update on Switch 2 that adds a split-screen mode for up to eight players. The feature is already available, expanding the game's local multiplayer to accommodate larger groups.

The screen, which is normally divided into four sections, is split once more. The result is eight vertical windows displayed simultaneously, each dedicated to one racer.

To use the new mode, players need eight controllers and enough space for all eight people. The race puts everyone side by side in the same match, preserving the traditional local multiplayer experience of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe while doubling the number of competitors on screen.

Nintendo has also added a feature called “CameraPlay” to the Switch 2 version of the game. With it, friends' faces appear on screen as they compete in races. The update therefore combines expanded multiplayer with a new way to watch players' reactions during a match.

The update is now available for free on Switch 2.

The package also includes visual improvements and shorter loading times for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The changes arrive on Nintendo's latest console without changing the game's focus on races featuring familiar characters from the series.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has also been included in a selection of games regarded as classics of the racing genre. On Switch 2, the title now offers an option for players who want to bring eight participants together in a single session, provided there are enough controllers for everyone.
