Resident Evil Requiem has already generated more than US$ 500 million in box office returns, but the breakdown of sales across platforms reveals a significant gap for Xbox. An analysis published by Alinea Analytics indicates that just 8.6% of the 8.5 million copies sold went to Xbox Series X/S consoles, equivalent to around 731,000 units.

PlayStation 5 accounted for 48.1% of sales, with roughly 4.01 million copies. Steam followed closely with 43.4%, or about 3.69 million units. Resident Evil Requiem also remains the fastest-selling game in Capcom's survival-horror series to date.

The figures highlight the gap between Sony and Microsoft platforms in this generation. PlayStation 5 had reached 95.3 million units shipped by June, while Xbox Series X/S is believed to have sold just over 35 million consoles. Microsoft stopped disclosing official sales figures several years ago. By comparison, Xbox One reached 58 million units in the previous generation.

The analysis emerged a day after reports of a similar split in GTA 6 pre-orders, which were reportedly much more concentrated on PlayStation 5. Matthew Ball, who oversees Xbox strategy, said Microsoft was “very happy” with the game's pre-orders, which were reportedly breaking Xbox records and matching the platform's share of the console market.

The gap seen with Resident Evil Requiem, however, goes beyond what hardware-sales estimates alone might suggest. The franchise's long-standing strength on PlayStation, particularly in Japan, where Xbox has never established a meaningful presence, is a possible explanation. The performance also raises questions about whether Xbox Series X/S players are opting for PC or another console to play multiplatform releases.
