Pokémon TCG Pocket is a digital collectible card game for iOS and Android, developed by Creatures Inc. and DeNA and published by The Pokémon Company. Announced in a Pokémon Presents broadcast on February 27, 2024, it launched worldwide on October 30, 2024. The application reworks the Pokémon Trading Card Game for mobile devices, emphasizing opening packs, assembling cards, and playing streamlined matches. Its debut expansion, Genetic Apex, offered three pack designs centered on Charizard, Mewtwo, and Pikachu. Rather than reproducing the physical game card for card, Pocket uses its own card pool, rules, rarity treatments, and presentation features for players.
Players receive two free booster packs daily, with twelve hours separating the standard openings; Pack Hourglasses can reduce the waiting time. Wonder Pick provides another collection route. After another player opens a pack, a Wonder Pick can present five facedown cards from that opening, and the selecting player spends Wonder Stamina in hopes of obtaining one. The service also has a Premium Pass, which adds an extra pack opening each day while active. Cards can be organized in binders or display boards and shown to other users. Immersive cards move viewers into animated illustrations rather than simply visually enlarging card art.
Battles use decks of twenty cards, not the sixty-card decks familiar from standard tabletop Pokémon TCG. Players win by earning three points. Knocking Out an ordinary Pokémon gives one point, whereas defeating a Pokémon ex gives two. Pocket does not require players to put Energy cards into decks: Energy is generated automatically in the Energy Zone, subject to the deck’s selected types. The compact ruleset also changes setup and turn structure for quick games. Players can fight solo battles against computer-controlled opponents or use Versus Battle to face other players. Deck building and type combinations matter in quick mobile matches.
Post-launch updates continued to add sets and features. Mythical Island, a booster expansion focused on Mew, arrived on December 17, 2024. Space-Time Smackdown followed on January 30, 2025, with Dialga and Palkia as its pack stars. Trading was introduced on January 29, 2025. At its initial release, trading was restricted to certain cards from Genetic Apex and Mythical Island, rather than allowing unrestricted exchanges across every card. This limitation reflected Pocket’s collection-driven economy and its separate treatment of different expansion cards. It combines pack openings, Wonder Pick, display tools, and abbreviated battles in a format distinct from physical TCG play overall.
