Every guess is compared with today's game attribute by attribute. Green means exact, amber means close, and the arrow says whether the answer is higher or lower than your guess.
How does the game of the day work?
Everyone plays the same game today, and it changes at midnight UTC. You have eight guesses, and every guess is compared with today's game attribute by attribute: year, genres, debut platform, studio and the country the studio is from.
Nothing about the answer is in the page you are reading. Each guess is checked on the server, so the only way to find the game is to guess it.
Why are there no screenshots or sprites?
Because a screenshot, a sprite and a soundtrack are somebody else's work, and this is a commercial site. Guessing from a sprite is the obvious format for this genre and it is the one thing we cannot do. Attributes cost nothing to license and work the same in every language.
What does the debut platform mean when a game came out everywhere at once?
It says Multiplatform. Picking one of them would be inventing data: a game released on three systems on the same day did not debut on any one of them. Half the pool is single platform, so the column still narrows things down.
Why is there no score?
Because a review score is a moving average kept by somebody else, and this calendar is written a year ahead. A number frozen today would be wrong within weeks. The country the studio comes from replaced it: it never changes, and it splits the pool in a different way from the studio itself.
Does sharing my result spoil the game?
No. The shared square carries only the colours of each guess, never the titles you tried and never the arrows, because an arrow tells the reader whether the answer is above or below your guess.
