Riders Republic is an extreme-sports game developed by Ubisoft Annecy and released on October 28, 2021. Rather than follow a conventional plot with a central protagonist, it builds its career around a large shared outdoor playground and a sequence of competitions. Players create a rider, enter events, earn equipment, and progress through sports careers that include biking, skiing, snowboarding, and wingsuit flying. The setting brings together locations inspired by real United States national parks, including Bryce Canyon, Yosemite Valley, Sequoia Park, Zion, Canyonlands, Mammoth Mountain, and Grand Teton.
The game’s defining feature is its compressed geography. Its open world combines recognizable terrain from several parks into one continuous map, so a ride can move between environments that would be far apart in reality. Riders race down mountain slopes, cross rocky desert routes, and tackle wooded trails. The map is not presented as an exact, to-scale representation of any single park; it is a playable collage designed for rapid travel and competition.
Career progression is divided into sport-specific tracks. Bike events include downhill races and freeride challenges, while snow sports focus on skiing and snowboarding. The game also includes aerial events built around rocket-powered wingsuits and standard wingsuits. Each discipline has its own equipment and handling, and completing events contributes to career progress and unlocks further opportunities. Sponsored competitions and branded sports events give the career a connection to the real-world action-sports scene, while the rider’s created identity remains at the center of play.
Riders Republic is also built around multiplayer encounters. Its mass-start races place large groups of riders on the same course, where participants switch between disciplines and equipment as the route changes. The original release promoted races with more than 50 players on supported platforms, while platform versions and later updates affected the available player counts. Outside these large races, players can meet others in the open world, compete in smaller events, or take part in social activities.
The game followed Ubisoft Annecy’s earlier work on Steep, the studio’s 2016 winter-sports game. Riders Republic expanded beyond skiing and snowboarding by adding bikes and aerial sports, while retaining the emphasis on open mountain environments and event-based progression. Ubisoft later added BMX content, including new equipment and dedicated riding areas, broadening the sport selection after launch.
Its appeal comes from the contrast between recognizable outdoor landscapes and deliberately exaggerated scale: national-park-inspired scenery supports quick, crowded races and freely chosen routes. Riders Republic is not a wilderness simulation or a story about a named athlete. It is a connected sports playground in which career events, equipment unlocks, and multiplayer competition organize the experience.
