Mixtape is a narrative adventure game by Beethoven & Dinosaur, published by Annapurna Interactive, following three teenagers on their final night together through playable memories set to a licensed music soundtrack.

Edit reference

Mixtape is an upcoming narrative adventure game from Beethoven & Dinosaur, the Australian studio behind The Artful Escape. Annapurna Interactive revealed it during the June 2024 Xbox Games Showcase, presenting a project about friendship, memory, and the charged final night before adulthood. The game is planned for Xbox Series X|S and PC, with availability through Xbox Game Pass announced alongside its reveal.

At the center is a trio of best friends spending their last night together before leaving their hometown. Their route to a graduation party becomes a journey through memories, with each recollection revealing a different stage of their relationship. This framing gives Mixtape a defined endpoint: the friends are not beginning school, forming a band, or solving a fantasy mystery; they are looking back before a major separation.

The memories are presented as playable episodes rather than passive cutscenes. The announced premise describes the friends reliving pivotal moments from their adolescence while traveling toward the party. That structure lets the game move between its present-night road trip and earlier experiences, making nostalgia an interactive subject. Players are meant to participate in the memories, not merely watch a retrospective.

Music is the central organizing device. Each memory is tied to a mixtape-style selection of licensed songs, and the soundtrack is used to establish time, mood, and the emotional meaning of the friends' experiences. The title therefore refers to an object associated with shared listening and personal history, while also describing the game's episodic flow: individual tracks become entry points into specific memories.

Beethoven & Dinosaur's earlier game, The Artful Escape, helps place Mixtape in context. That 2021 adventure followed Francis Vendetti, a teenager from a folk-music town who adopted a flamboyant cosmic-rock identity. Mixtape appears to retain the studio's interest in music-led storytelling, but its subject is grounded in ordinary adolescent friendships and the difficult transition out of familiar surroundings.

The announced game also emphasizes varied activities within its memories. Public footage has shown the friends skating, riding bicycles, exploring outdoor spaces, and sharing moments of youthful mischief. These are not disconnected minigames presented as a checklist; they are snapshots intended to make the trio's history feel lived in before the final evening brings those experiences into focus.

Mixtape is less a quest than a farewell. Its conflict comes from change itself: friends who have years must decide what their memories mean when the future is no longer guaranteed.
