Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is a first-person shooter developed by Treyarch and Raven Software and published by Activision. Released on October 25, 2024, it is set mainly in 1991, during the Gulf War and the final years of the Cold War. This placement gives the campaign a different focus from the Vietnam-centered original Black Ops and the 1980s setting of Black Ops Cold War. It follows a covert CIA team after agent Russell Adler is accused of betrayal. Players control Case, a mostly silent operative, alongside Troy Marshall and CIA handler Jane Harrow. The investigation leads them toward Pantheon, a mysterious paramilitary organization that has infiltrated Western intelligence. Frank Woods, a veteran of earlier Black Ops stories, also returns as a supporting figure and mentor. The campaign uses a safehouse in Iraq as an operational hub, allowing players to select equipment, inspect evidence, and speak with teammates between missions. Its missions move between Iraq, Europe, and the United States, combining conventional firefights with espionage, interrogation, stealth, and branching choices. The game introduces an adjustable field upgrade system at the safehouse, letting players improve aspects such as armor, gear, and tactical support. Although Black Ops 6 retains the series’ conspiratorial tone, its story explicitly connects personal distrust to large-scale geopolitical conflict rather than simply retelling a historical war. Multiplayer adds “Omnimovement,” a movement system that permits sprinting in any direction, including backward, while diving or sliding. The launch offering included twelve standard six-vs-six maps and four Strike maps designed for smaller matches. Players could also use a new body-shield mechanic, carry enemy players as human shields, and build loadouts with the Gunsmith system. The progression structure supports prestige resets, bringing back the classic Call of Duty Prestige loop. Round-based Zombies returns as a major mode, with Terminus and Liberty Falls available at launch. The maps continue the Dark Aether storyline after the events of Black Ops Cold War, featuring operators who investigate outbreaks and recover information connected to Project Janus. The mode includes classic escalating rounds, wall buys, mystery boxes, perks, and Pack-a-Punch upgrades, while adding augment research, directed mode objectives, and Wonder Weapons. Liberty Falls uses a West Virginia town during a zombie outbreak, whereas Terminus is a prison island.
