Fields of Mistria is a fantasy farming role-playing game developed and published by NPC Studio. It entered Steam Early Access on August 5, 2024, presenting a deliberately 1990s-inspired pixel-art look alongside systems associated with farm-life simulations. Its story begins after an earthquake damages the village of Mistria. The player, an adventurer seeking work, accepts a request from Adeline, the town’s acting leader, to revitalize an overgrown farm and help restore the community. The restoration premise is not merely decorative. Earnings and resources can be spent on town-repair projects, while the player rebuilds the farm, grows seasonal crops, raises animals, fishes, mines, and gathers materials. Mistria’s calendar divides the year into spring, summer, fall, and winter, with seasonal activities and crops. The game also uses a stamina-based daily routine, allowing players to decide how to balance farm work, exploration, social visits, and requests. A central fantastical thread involves Caldarus, a dragon whose presence is tied to the damaged town and the player’s gradual progress. By advancing through the mines and contributing to restoration, the player uncovers more of Mistria’s history and its magic. Mining is structured around successive areas rather than being only a source of ore: the depths contain monsters, environmental obstacles, and artifacts, and the player can obtain combat spells and improve their equipment. Mistria is populated by named residents with routines, dialogue, friendship levels, and personal events. The Early Access game identifies twelve romance candidates, including Adeline, Balor, Celine, Eiland, Juniper, March, Reina, Ryis, Valen, and others. Relationships are built through conversation, gifts, and heart events, and the game supports romance regardless of the player character’s gender. Characters are not restricted to romance; villagers also issue requests and react to town life. NPC Studio announced an Early Access roadmap and continued adding features after launch. The November 2024 update added additional mine floors, story content, and expanded relationship material, reflecting the studio’s plan to develop the unfinished version in public. Early Access also means that some advertised long-term elements, such as the complete main story and full marriage system, were not present at the initial release. Even in that state, the game’s identity rests on the specific recovery of an earthquake-struck settlement, Caldarus’s mystery, and the interlocking routines of its residents, rather than on an abstract farm alone. Players can customize their farmer’s appearance and farm layout, but Mistria’s rebuilding projects give those ordinary tasks a defined narrative purpose.
