Rayman Legends Retold will expand on the original game's famous musical stages with about a dozen levels. The project preserves one of the most celebrated features of the 2013 platformer, now adapted from a 2D presentation to 2.5D.The rhythm stages in Rayman Legends became known for combining running, jumping and obstacles with versions of songs such as “Black Betty”, “Eye of the Tiger” and “Woo-Hoo” performed in an invented language. In Retold, Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan are working on both returning levels and entirely new creations.Marco Renso, animation and cinematics director for Rayman Legends Retold at Ubisoft Milan, described creating the new stages as an especially creative experience. In his view, the art, music, animation and every other element must come together on each beat to shape the stage's rhythm and progression.“Working on new musical stages doesn't happen very often. Making everything fit together is like conducting a composition: every element, every beat, has to work in concert to create an experience built around rhythm and progression.”- Marco RensoLoïc Gounon, brand producer at Ubisoft Montpellier, said that choosing the tracks was one of the most difficult parts of the process. The team wanted to offer more variety and find songs that could appeal to different people, rather than limiting themselves to tracks that are simply popular at the moment.The goal is for both older and younger players to find something familiar in the new musical selections. The team sees music as a meeting point between generations. According to Gounon, a child might introduce a song to their father, or a father might show his son a track he grew up with.So far, two new musical stages have been revealed, one of which is inspired by a song whose name has not yet been disclosed.
