Closing Arkane Lyon would probably cost Microsoft more than finishing and releasing Marvel's Blade, according to the STJV, the French union representing the studio's workers. The union is challenging Xbox's decision to part with the team.In a statement, the union says development of Marvel's Blade is going well and the game is on track to meet the standard set by Arkane's previous work. The STJV argues that giving up the studio now would undermine a project Microsoft itself funded. No release date has been announced for the game. The team's future remains under negotiation. Following job cuts and changes at Xbox studios, Arkane Lyon has until December to find a buyer. Ubisoft is reportedly among the interested companies, but no acquisition has been completed. The STJV also blames some of the delays and rising costs of Marvel's Blade on a Microsoft-imposed hiring freeze that, according to the union, lasted more than a year. It says the company is now citing those same problems to justify closing the studio. The claim about the cost of a potential closure is the union's estimate; its statement provides no figures to support the comparison. In negotiations, workers want a say in choosing a potential buyer and guarantees against layoffs in the coming years. If a sale does not go ahead, the STJV says Microsoft's proposed package is insufficient and is seeking € 200 mil in compensation per employee, along with additional support. No buyer has yet been confirmed for Arkane Lyon. With information from Eurogamer.
