Nintendo has enough memory to make more consoles and is ruling out another Switch 2 price increase for now, despite pressure on the industry.

Nintendo has no plans to raise the Switch 2’s price again. Company president Shuntaro Furukawa said enough memory is available to produce more consoles. His comments followed the release of Nintendo’s results for the first half of fiscal 2027.

That does not reverse the price increase already in place. On September 1, the Switch 2 became more expensive in the United States, Canada, Japan and Europe, with increases of US$ 50, € 30 and ¥ 10,000, depending on the market. Before the console launched, Nintendo had also raised the price of Switch 2 accessories in the United States because of tariffs imposed by the Trump administration.

Memory supply is a factor in the decision. A global shortage of memory and storage, driven by demand tied to artificial intelligence, is putting pressure on console makers. PlayStation and Xbox hardware has already seen price increases. The most recent increase for the Xbox Series X and Series S came in August.

The pressure on components has also reached Nintendo’s supply chain. A longtime supplier of ROM memory has exited that business to focus on more profitable areas. That type of memory is used in Switch cartridges, but Nintendo has not commented on the supplier’s departure.

The Switch 2 has sold 26 million units. Hardware sales have declined for several quarters from the levels seen when the console launched in 2025, although they remain ahead of the pace set by the original Switch.
