Factorio 2.1 is now available as a stable release. The update brings quality-of-life changes, small new features and visual improvements to the base game and the Space Age expansion. There are no new planets, enemies or research trees: the focus is on changes the studio wanted to include in version 2.0 but did not have time to finish. For players managing transport between planets, one of the most useful additions is mixed-cargo rockets. A single launch can now carry different items. Platforms in orbit can also request and supply materials from one another, while an option to import from any source makes it easier to stock up on fuel, ammunition and repair packs.Space platform behavior has changed, too. The damage caused by an asteroid now depends on how much health it has left rather than its speed, making impacts more predictable. The platform hub has more health and resistance, and drag is now based on mass rather than the width of the structure. The update expands what players can do with the circuit network. Land mines can act as enemy detectors, and pipes can be connected to the network. Boilers and heat exchangers can be connected as well. For unloading materials, a new cargo area lets inserters take items from the landing pad and send them directly to trains, chests or belts.Another change gives players more freedom to play Space Age without Quality. Quality can now be disabled, though it remains enabled by default. Wube detailed the changes in its official announcement and updated the classic Factorio trailer. According to the studio, version 2.1 is the last major update planned; bug fixes and support updates will continue while the team works on other prototypes and experiments.
