Fable featured a playable demo at Xbox FanFest, held in London last week. The preview lasted around 15 minutes and showcased a mission focused on the combat system in the reboot developed by Playground Games. The demo allowed players to try melee attacks, magic and ranged weapons. The segment represented only a small sample of the full game, but it helped address one of the main concerns ahead of release: how the combat feels. In practice, the attacks have weight and rhythm. Strikes can carry the player from one enemy to another, creating opportunities for momentum-based combos. The animations appeared highly polished, while magic added variety to encounters. The crossbow was described as a somewhat forgettable weapon, although it proved to be the most powerful option in the demo. The preview also introduced a parry system that slows down the action when the player times a parry correctly. The mechanic felt confusing at first, and 15 minutes were not enough to master it. The combat only began to feel fluid in the final minutes of the session.Away from combat, Fable stood out for its visual presentation. The game ran at 60 FPS throughout the demo. It was unclear whether the version being played was running on a PC or an Xbox Series X, but a 60 FPS mode has already been confirmed for the console at launch. The mission featured Humphrey, one of the main characters in the new version, played by Matt King, known for Peep Show. The character combines laid-back humor with more serious combat sequences, maintaining the tone associated with the series. The demo did not allow players to explore Albion or interact with non-player characters. Fable is scheduled to launch in February 2027 for Xbox Series X, with 60 FPS confirmed at launch.
