Double Fine has unveiled Thank You Bus Driver, its first game since returning to independent operations following Xbox’s restructuring. The comedy simulation game puts players behind the wheel of a bus driver described as rule-bound, but reckless.The mission is to reach the next bus stop at any cost. That means opening the map in the middle of a turn, cutting through a cornfield and treating pedestrians, oncoming cars and fences as optional obstacles. According to the game’s premise, the goal is to earn recognition for the service.The Thank You Bus Driver page on Steam instructs players to drive fast, slap even faster and throw anyone who breaks the rules off the bus. Reaching the destination is treated as the only priority.Thank You Bus Driver is listed as “coming soon” on Steam, but is already available to pre-order on the platform and on GOG. Double Fine has not yet announced a release date or detailed plans for other platforms.The studio’s change in direction came during Xbox’s broader reorganization, announced in July by CEO Asha Sharma. Around 3,200 positions were affected across the division, and several studios, including Double Fine, returned to independence while retaining their intellectual properties and existing catalogs.During the transition, Double Fine laid off approximately a quarter of its 90-person staff. The studio said the cuts were necessary to reach a sustainable size.
