Overwatch 2: Best heroes to play in Season 20

The end of 2025 marked the arrival of Season 20 in Overwatch 2, bringing the return of the beloved Winter Wonderland event with new game modes, as well as new themed skins and various balance changes!

Sigma

Sigma received special attention in the December adjustments and solidifies itself as one of the safest choices for Season 20. Frequently appearing at the top of tier lists, the hero went through a real balancing rollercoaster last week.

Initially, the direct damage of his Hyperspheres had increased drastically, but a hotfix adjusted the value to 20 damage. Even with this quick fix, Sigma remains extremely lethal. The ability to hit targets directly now rewards player precision much more, allowing for crucial eliminations against lower-health targets.

His mobile barrier and ability to absorb projectiles make him the perfect answer against the high damage spam currently present in the game. He can control space and mitigate damage while exerting constant offensive pressure.

D.Va

D.Va retains her crown as one of the most dominant tanks in Overwatch 2. The hero remains an S Tier pick due to her versatility and vertical mobility, crucial for contesting high ground.

The December 11th patch notes brought an important fix to her Perk, Extended Boosters, which was preventing the correct application of the damage boost. With that resolved, D.Va is back to operating at her full potential. She is exceptionally good at isolating out-of-position targets and protecting her team from devastating ultimates with the Defense Matrix.

In addition, of course, D.Va offers a second chance at life with her pilot mechanic, something valuable for maintaining presence on the objective during tense overtimes.

Hazard

Hazard is still one of the newest heroes in his position and continues to receive adjustments to find his ideal place. In this update, he's more robust than ever – Blizzard decided to restore some of the strength that had been previously removed.

His Jagged Wall ability received a considerable buff. The structure's health increased from 350 to 400, and the knockback damage rose to 50. These changes make Hazard's wall a much more reliable tool for splitting up the enemy team and securing isolated kills.

He works very well on maps with narrow corridors and contested control points. The wall's extra durability requires enemies to expend more resources to take it down, creating windows of opportunity for his team to advance.

Vendetta

Vendetta is, without a doubt, the star of the end-of-year update. After a testing period, the heroine received significant improvements to the fluidity of her skill set, making her a constant threat in the hands of skilled players.

The recovery times for important moves like Whirlwind Dash and Soaring Slice have been reduced. Furthermore, the projectile speed of Projected Edge has increased from 33 to 37 meters per second. This means Vendetta can now execute her combos much faster and more accurately.

She dictates the pace of aggressive matches. Although her maximum throw range has been slightly reduced to maintain balance, the speed at which she enters and exits combat places her at the top of the damage meta.

Bastion

Bastion emerges as a powerhouse at the end of the year, thanks to an adjustment focused on his versatility. Often seen merely as a "walking turret," the robot has received a buff that drastically improves his consistency.

The firing rate of Configuration: Recon – his standard form – has increased from 5 to 6 shots per second. This increased rate of fire makes Bastion much more dangerous while moving around the map, reducing his reliance on Sentinel form. He can now duel more effectively against other snipers at medium range.

This change forces enemies to respect Bastion at all times, not just when he transforms. The constant pressure he exerts on barriers and tanks remains a huge advantage in creating space.

Sojourn

Sojourn has always stood out in our traditional lists – and it was no different last season – regardless of the absence of direct changes, she's present once again! The consistency of her Railgun frequently places her among the safest choices for those seeking to reach higher ranks.

The mechanic of charging energy in robust tanks, such as the now-buffed Hazard or D.Va, and then eliminating priority targets with a single shot, remains one of the most effective strategies in the game. The secondary fire offers burst damage potential that sets the pace for team fights in high elos.

Mobility is another decisive factor in her staying at the top. With the rise of extremely agile heroes like Vendetta and her ability resets, Sojourn's ability to slide and escape danger guarantees a higher survival rate than static marksmen like Ashe or Cassidy.

Juno

Juno received the most exciting mechanical change for the support class this season. The hero now has a much higher skill ceiling, rewarding players with good aim.

Her primary shot – Mediblaster – is now capable of dealing critical damage when hitting headshots on enemies. This completely transforms how Juno defends against flankers, as she now has a better tool to eliminate aggressors who underestimate her.

Thus, Juno becomes a powerful hybrid choice, offering mobility, healing, and now respectable kill potential.

Kiriko

Kiriko makes our list with an important caveat: the support champion, almost unanimously considered the strongest in Hero Shooters, has become mechanically more demanding. There has been a direct reduction in the projectile size of her Kunai. This change aims to reward precision, making long-range critical hits a task for more dedicated players.

Even with the offensive adjustment, the utility of her kit remains unshaken. Protective Suzu continues to be the definitive answer when it comes to clearing negative effects. Furthermore, Swift Step offers the necessary mobility to escape the advances of D.Va or the new Vendetta.

Her Ultimate still stands out as one of the best win conditions to initiate team fights. Although it now requires sharper aim to secure eliminations, Kiriko remains an elite support champion for those who master her timing and positioning mechanics.

Lúcio

Lúcio can position himself as the strongest in his role in the meta, especially with the rise of aggressive compositions led by heroes like Vendetta and Hazard or D.Va. Speed ​​is the most valuable attribute when closing the distance against marksmen.

Although it hasn't received any direct numerical changes to its kit, the surrounding environment favors its playstyle. Lúcio's ability to quickly move the team and ensure survival with Sound Barrier is irreplaceable.

He's a support who can survive where others would fail, escaping the pressure of mobile tanks with his wall movement.

Overwatch 2 Season 20 features a vibrant and aggressive meta. We also see an interesting balance where the mechanical precision of heroes like Juno and Sigma is rewarded as much as the aggressiveness of Vendetta and Hazard.
