Microsoft has reportedly presented Hollywood studios with a US$ 300 million package to adapt more than a dozen Xbox franchises.

Microsoft is reportedly in talks with major Hollywood studios about bringing Xbox franchises to film and television. The properties involved reportedly include Halo, Warcraft, The Elder Scrolls and Diablo, all of which could receive new adaptations beyond video games.

As part of the initiative, Xbox is said to be quietly pitching a US$ 300 million package that includes the rights to more than a dozen games. Netflix, Paramount and Universal have expressed interest and are considering the proposal, according to reports.

The move comes after the success of the Fallout series on Prime Video, which renewed Microsoft’s interest in bringing its franchises to the screen. The Halo adaptation had a different outcome: the series was canceled after two seasons, more than two years ago.

Blizzard has also publicly discussed the possibility of adapting its properties for film and television, provided the projects maintain a high standard of quality. Even so, part of Microsoft’s plans remains under wraps, while some projects have already been confirmed and are in development.

Among them is a Sea of Thieves film directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who is behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as well as a live-action Call of Duty adaptation directed by Peter Berg. Minecraft will also have more to offer: A Minecraft Movie 2 is scheduled to hit theaters next year, and an independent animated series will eventually arrive on Netflix.

Netflix is also developing a Gears of War film and an adult animated series based on the franchise. The Grounded animated series, announced in 2022, still has no new details.

Meanwhile, Amazon is moving ahead with Fallout’s third season and production on a Wolfenstein series.
